Good Morning America viewers are getting anxious (but they really shouldn’t be).
So where is Robin Roberts?
Not seeing her next to the rest of the GMA crew in the A.M. instantly had folks Googling to find out if the famed morning co-host was out on an assignment, sick, or, even, leaving GMA for good.
And here comes some news:
“Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts left mid-show yesterday because she’s feeling the effects of her blood and bone marrow disease MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome. She said, “Well a full disclosure here, I’m not feeling too well. In fact, I’m going to leave, and let you all do the rest of the program on your own. I’m going to take a little time off, just to get some vacay…I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”
She had a sore jaw as the result of her treatments, and couldn’t talk out of the right side of her mouth. She joked with news anchor Josh Elliott about her voice, and he responded, “We’re going to miss you, but we do appreciate the Jimmy Cagney impersonation before you leave.” Robin left shortly after that and did not return. ABC says she should be back in a few weeks – before leaving again in late August or early September to have a bone-marrow transplant.
“I had planned to let tomorrow be the last day,” she said. “And then some things happened at home and I wanna take care of that before I begin my treatment next week.
As Robin says she will be resting away from GMA until she is given the all clear. Her doctors will be monitoring her closely and she will be at the hospital regularly to make sure she is on the right track.
Robin Roberts will recover surrounded by friends and family.
She is not expected to head back to GMA until sometime in 2020.
